The City of Atlanta, Georgia has officially proclaimed July 22 as Kanye West Day.
This came after the rapper treated his fans to a one-of-a-kind experience at his “Donda” listening event.
Kanye West was gifted with a couple of things after the listening event for his newest album, Donda, including one intended as a tribute to his late mom, according to TMZ.
The outlet writes that the City where the event was held and where Kanye was born prior to his Chicago/Chicago area upbringing, officially proclaimed July 22 to be “Kanye West Day.” Following his performance at Mercedes-Benz Stadium, he was presented with a plaque backstage.
Kevin James, the President of Morris Brown College, the Atlanta HBCU where Donda West previously taught, also presented Kanye with an award that was called the “Dr. Donda West Meritorious Service to Morris Brown College.”
The gift was apparently significant, at least enough to get a visible reaction, as TMZ writes that its “sources” claimed Kanye’s “family was with him when he received the awards backstage, and he got super emotional about it.”
Kevin James, President of ATL’s HBCU, Morris Brown College, gave Kanye West a token of appreciation on behalf of his mother, Donda West, who taught in the college for almost 2 many years and was Chair of the English Department.
The award James gave to Kanye is known as the Dr. Donda West Meritorious Service to Morris Brown College.
Donda began her profession at Morris Brown which is the one of the Historically black colleges and universities opened in 1881.
Kanye who was born in Atlanta, unveiled his new album named after his mom on Thursday evening before an enormous crowd that included Kim Kardashian and their children, together with Khloe.
Born in Atlanta and raised in Chicago, West gained notoriety as a producer for Roc-A-Fella Records in the early 2000s, producing singles for several mainstream artists.
Intent on pursuing a solo career as a rapper, West released his debut album The College Dropout in 2004 to critical and commercial success, and founded the record label GOOD Music.
He experimented with a variety of musical genres on subsequent acclaimed studio albums, including Late Registration (2005), Graduation (2007), and 808s & Heartbreak (2008).
Drawing inspiration from maximalism and minimalism respectively, West’s fifth album My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy (2010) and sixth album Yeezus (2013) were also critical and commercial successes.
